From the Worship Team

It’s Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of Summer in America. Newer members may not realize it, but for most of our history, Unitarian Universalist churches were closed during the summer. No one is sure where this practice originated, although the prevailing theory links it to the fact that Unitarianism has its root in the Northeastern United States where congregants left town to spend the summer on “the Cape”. PADS Needs

Hello, Friends, The Elgin PADS shelter currently needs the following: paper towels, toilet paper, bottled water and disposable face masks. You may put these supplies in the collection basket at church near the greeting table. Thank you for your generosity.  Also, if you know of anyone looking for a job, please have them check out the PADS of Elgin job postings on Indeed. Right now, they still need a couple of case managers. Dotty CarringiUUCE PADS Coordinator847-502-4835 “Homeless Doesn’t Have To Mean…

The UUCE Book Group Marks 30 Years!

In 2002 Alice Macy, the founder of the group, wrote in the Unichord: “The UUCE Book Group will celebrate ten years of meeting on a regular basis, and during that time we’ve read and discussed 85 books…but it’s about much more than books—it’s about friendship and mutual support, camaraderie and laughter, sharing ideas and experiences.” This year is the 30th anniversary of the Book Group which has met continually since 1992, and we’ve read dozens more, perhaps three times more.…

From Marj Askins, Religious Education (RE) Coordinator

Religious Education will be taking a Summer Break. As our beloved community prepares for summer, and our families prepare for vacation and adventures, the RE program will wind down classes for a couple of months. We’re also hoping to plan some more activities with youth from other congregations,…
