Ethnic Eating; The Tastes of Argentina and More

I think I enjoy writing this blurb right after we visit the restaurant of the month. This month is no exception. The tastes of Argentina are still around. Yesterday, our small group of adventurers attended Tango Sur in Chicago. Accompanied by Argentine wine, we sampled the foods of that great country, empanadas, eggplant and, of course, steak.  You could cut the steak with a fork it was so tender. Everyone of our group left well satisfied. If you get a…

Ethnic Eating Update

We are all set for Argentine cuisine for Saturday but the world continues to spin and likewise March means a new country and a new cuisine. For March, that means Armenia. I had originally selected a restaurant with some Armnenian dishes but a fellow congregant has an Armenian friend who has suggested an actual Armenian restaurant so that’s where we are going. Join us at Sayat Nova at 157 E Ohio Street in Chicago on Sunday, March 5th at 4:30…

Alice Macy’s Gift to UUCE

Alice Macy was a long-time, beloved, and generous member of our church. After her death in April 2022, Alice left a significant financial gift to UUCE. Included with her gift was a letter to the UUCE Board of Trustees that stipulated how she wanted her gift to be used, specifically for maintenance of, or improvements to our UUCE building, grounds, or parking lot. She also requested the formation of a committee to oversee how her gift, which totaled $73,666.39, and…

From the UUA’s Braver/Wiser

Communion and SustenanceRev. Tania Márquez “Food for us comes from our relatives, whether they have wings or fins or roots. That is how we consider food. Food has a culture. It has a history. It has a story. It has relationships.”—Winona LaDuke My mom does not keep a recipe book. Every meal she made was made from memory and intuition. No measuring cups: only the knowledge of her eyes and hands that could measure the exact amount of spices or ingredients needed for…
