4th Quarter Share the Plate

4th Quarter Share the Plate

Beginning April 1, 2024 our Share the Plate recipient will be Centro de Informacion, with offices in Elgin, Carpentersville, and Hanover Park.  Centro is in the National Immigration Legal Services Directory and was awarded a grant from the State of Illinois this year to serve the burgeoning number of Spanish speaking immigrants overflowing the greater Chicagoland area.

All of Centro’s staff are bilingual (Spanish/English).  The agency provides assistance with over a dozen legal immigration issues.  In addition, they serve the immigrant population by providing cultural, language, health, employment, public education, counseling, and housing services.  Our own church participated in Centro’s project Bienvenidos a Elgin recently and was instrumental in collecting new equipment and supplies for several apartments for recent immigrants in and around Elgin.

Two of our members, Lydia Larrabee and Jen Abbey are volunteering at Centro currently.  In addition to donations to Share the Plate on Sundays during April, May and June, we want to identify other ways UUCE can support current local immigration projects.
