From the Worship Team

It was so great to see everyone who was able to attend our service last Sunday! We were blessed with a beautiful day and a healthy turnout for our first in-person service in 2022! Several people stayed to walk the labyrinth and place the stones Rowan provided, thanks Rowan!   I love spring! Buds are forming, grass is greening, and I rejoice in the rain! Ponds that looked doomed are teeming with life and the birds are singing happy songs. The…

A Peacemaking Prayer

Our hearts go out to those who are suffering the horrors of war inflicted on them. This prayer was written by the Rev. Eric Cherry, of the UUA International Office. A Peacemaking Prayer By Rev. Eric Cherry The history is complex, the politics are intense, the fear and anger are overwhelming, and the future is unclear. But glimpses of a hopeful visionwill not be bombed into oblivionby anyone. In prayer, we call to mind the peacemakers.Neighbors of differing faithswith different historieswith different politicswith…

Congregation Photo this Sunday

Since Sunday is kind of a milestone day in our church history, the Revitalization Team would like to immortalize it by taking a photo after the service that captures the experience. We will be taking one from a high vantage point in the sanctuary to capture all the people that are joining us onsite, and we will also be including video screen captures of those who wish to be in the photo and are joining the service online. There will…

From the Revitalization Team

Spring has sprung, the grass is riz, I wonder where dem boidies iz? This silly saying pops into my mind every spring – can’t find an author to own up it! Our most exciting spring news right now is the Reopening Team’s announcement that an on-site service option will resume on March 20th! (We will still offer an online Zoom option for all services as well!) As I write this, statistics are still favorable and expected to improve. Thanks to…

4th Sunday Styrofoam Collection

Sunday, March 28, from 11:30am – 12pm Please separate your CLEAN food grade Styrofoam from your packaging Styrofoam and bag as needed.  Styrofoam peanuts are NOT accepted (take to UPS store).  Place your Styrofoam in the Red Prius in the church parking lot. We’ll drive it to Dart Container Corporation in North Aurora (open 24/7).  Please try to avoid using Styrofoam because its use is not sustainable. Many people manage to avoid it; indeed, entire countries do without it. Thank you! Mary Alice…

Reopening March 20th

COVID metrics for Kane County have continued their downward trend and are now well below the levels the Reopening Team set for safe in-person Sunday Services. Given this sustained improvement, March 20 will be the date we return to in-person Sunday services!  We’re committed to a reopening that honors our UU Principles and is safe for all: young, old, healthy, immunocompromised, vaccinated, and those who cannot get vaccinated yet or at all. In that light, an important aspect of our…

From the Board President

Hi Everyone! I wanted to check in and give you an update on what your Board of Trustees has been working on. With the church closed I feel like we have less opportunity to get the word out on what we’re doing, and I sometimes forget that people would like to know what direction the Church is headed! We recently held a meeting that combined the Executive Team, the Revitalization Committee and the Board to discuss how we could all…

UU Youth Event Saturday, April 23

I’m excited to tell you that several of us RE folks in the area are planning an outing for UU youth in our area. It will be outdoors and covid-safe (as much as possible). Everyone in our 12 and up group is welcome to join! There will be more details to come in the coming weeks. Let me know if you or your youth have any concerns about anything we’re planning that you’d like me to be aware of – we…

From Marj Askins, RE

Learning to be Together Again As we enter a new phase of this pandemic (again), and plan to be back in person for our Worship and Religious Education, I am feeling some tension – and I’m sure you are too. There is a strong desire to go “back” to the way things were before the virus, and also an urgent need to figure out how we do this in a new version of the world, one where we live alongside the virus…

PADS

Hello, Friends, There are two opportunities in March for donating lunches and/or serving at the PADS shelter — Monday, March 7 and Monday, March 21. The number of lunches needed is now 30. Please consider donating lunches, and/or serving those lunches.  Serving has been one of the most satisfying experiences for me, as we interact first hand with the guests we are helping to feed. The only requirement is that we show proof of vaccination and wear masks. Thank you to…
