PADS Sign Up for October
We need five volunteers to offer lunch, one for each Monday in October. You may sign up here. REMEMBER, UUCE WILL REIMBURSE YOU FOR YOUR MEAL EXPENSES! Volunteers once again have the option of serving their meal in person (masks on). It is a very rewarding experience to see the immediate fruits of our cooking labors — the smiles, the compliments, the thank yous. We make a difference! The PADS needs list for the week is: paper bowls, powdered coffee…
Alice Macy Book Group
The Book Group has been meeting once a month continually since 1993 to discuss a wide range of books, both fiction and non-fiction. As the pandemic eases, the group has returned to meeting in a member’s home, where they host a potluck lunch. Each book is selected by the designated host, and membership is open to all members and friends of UUCE who enjoy a good book. Join us on the last Monday of each month for a potluck lunch and…
“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” (F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby)
It’s only the very beginning of September so there are still some warm days left, but the crisp chilly air is not too far off. This is one of my favorite times of year. Along with the changing weather, it’s also time for a new church year. While we have been open for in-person gathering for quite some time, the upcoming Water Communion service and Homecoming celebration (with a catered lunch!) on September 11 will be a wonderful time to…

Join us Sunday September 11th for UUCE’s Homecoming!
The tradition of Homecoming that we’re all familiar with started in 1910 at the University of Illinois as way of giving alumni and new students the opportunity to get closer to one another and realize the “real greatness of the University”. The members of the Revitalization Team think that sentiment fits perfectly for our much-anticipated return to UUCE after a summer of vacations and time off! The festivities will take place right after the Sunday Water Communion Service and all are welcome…
Ethnic Eating
Has your summer included some travel? If so, congrats! If not, don’t despair. I’m going to invite you to take a trip in your mind that will hopefully ignite your tastebuds. Yes, we are going to restart Ethnic Eating, picking up right where we left off with a trip to the food of Andorra. Just to whet your appetite, we will be frequenting Mercat a la Planxa at 638 S Michigan Ave in Chicago at 6 PM on Saturday, September 24th.…
Help Us Name the New Worship Space
We have created a new space in the narthex for people of any age who might be more comfortable listening to a sermon when they can do something with their hands (especially our congregation’s kiddos!). We’re looking for help with naming it! It’s a quiet worship corner, but also a place for people with active minds and bodies. Any and all suggestions will be considered and are appreciated. Please send your suggestions by the end of August to Marj Askins, Religious…

Thank you to those who have signed up to provide lunches in August. There is still one volunteer opportunity: Monday, August 29.
