Ethnic Eating; Barangeroo Recap and May’s Restaurant Selection

If you were looking for a meal with ambiance, be very glad you skipped Australia; but, if you were seeking some extremely tasty eating, you missed a chance. It was providential that only three folks went to Barangeroo because the space held two tables and a few other seats. The food made up for it. It was hard to choose between the eight different pies they featured. In fact, we brought 6 different frozen pies home. If you have a…

Ethnic Eating At Barangaroos and May Date Change

By the time you read this, we will be a couple of days away from dining at Barangaroos Aussie Pies. It should be an interesting experience. In May, we will be targeting the country of Austria. As it happens sometimes, I did not consult the master schedule which is maintained by the Hislip household master (not me) so I must change the proposed date to Sunday, May 21st. On that date at 4:30 pm, we are dining at Heidi’s Fortune Pub at 2326 Hassell…

Elgin Pride: Save the Date!

UUCE is proud to support Elgin’s first ever Pride parade and festival on Saturday, June 3, 2023. Pride month and related annual events are celebrated globally, with its origins being the result of decades of LGBTQIA+ activism and organizing for equal rights. On June 28, 1970, on the one year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, the first Pride marches were held in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Thousands of LGBTQIA+ people gathered to commemorate Stonewall and demonstrate for equal rights. Elgin’s plans…

Ethnic Eating Update

The response for this month’s Ethnic Eating opportunity for sampling the cuisine of the Land Down Under has been, to say the least, UNDERwhelming. On the other hand, this means that there are plenty of seats available for dining at Barangaroos Aussie Pies at 3208 North Sheffield in Chicago on Sunday, April 23 at 4:30 for our next excursion. Please let me know at 847-243-3820 or dwhislip@gmail.com if you would like to join us.In May, the country of choice is Austria. As it…

For the Mother of all Potlucks!

The Revitalization Team invites you to potluck with us in honor of Mother’s Day!  The event will be held at the church the evening of Saturday, May 13th at 5:30pm. While it’s certainly not required, we encourage you to bring something that you loved eating while growing up.  Maybe a favorite dish your mother made?  Either way, please save the date and plan to spend some time feeding both body and heart with our beloved community.  More details to follow! Sharon…

Save the Date: Feed My Starving Children on (April 29)

Hello, all!  The Revitalization team would like to invite you to participate in an upcoming service event.  We will be gathering in Schaumburg on April 29 from 4:30 – 6:15 pm to pack meals for children around the world through an organization called “Feed My Starving Children”.  The following is a blurb from their website (https://www.fmsc.org): FMSC offers volunteers a one-of-a-kind experience. You’ll hand-pack rice, soy, dried vegetables and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals into bags which are…

The UUCE Youth Invite you to get clean! (April 2nd)

Well, not YOU exactly. But our church! Our intrepid UUCE Youth Group have scheduled an all church clean-up for Sunday, April 2nd after church.  They are busy coming up with detailed work for each room of the church and are looking for a whole host of volunteers to help get our beloved home sparkling again.  Do you have a couple hours to spare? Ethnic Eating Update

We are all set for Argentine cuisine for Saturday but the world continues to spin and likewise March means a new country and a new cuisine. For March, that means Armenia. I had originally selected a restaurant with some Armnenian dishes but a fellow congregant has an Armenian friend who has suggested an actual Armenian restaurant so that’s where we are going. Join us at Sayat Nova at 157 E Ohio Street in Chicago on Sunday, March 5th at 4:30…

Valentine’s Potluck

Join us this coming Saturday, February 11th, for our Valentine’s Potluck beginning at 5:30pm in Fellowship Hall at the church – hosted by the Revitalization Team. Please bring yourself and your sweetie or a friend (if you want) and a dish to share. There are no rules about who should bring what – just bring a food item that you love to share with everyone present. The only request is that you bring/know the ingredients for those of us with…

Ethnic Eating Update

People apparently enjoy island time. Twenty-six folks enjoyed the food and fellowship Saturday night at Mariscos El Charco. If you didn’t get to go with the group, I would highly recommend this local Elgin jewel. It was delicious and the portions plentiful. I’m still eating part of mine. Now let’s turn our attention to February. On the 19th of next month, we will be dining at 5:00pm at Tango Sur at 3763 N. Southport Avenue in Chicago. For those of…
