If you’re looking to get involved in the church but aren’t sure where to start, this is a great place to begin! Involvement in different areas is an important part of feeling connected to the community, and we can help you find a place to belong. (If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities in the Elgin-area community, check out our Justice Projects page!)
Help Wanted
Some groups at UUCE are looking for new members to grow their team, or help with specific tasks:
Audio Editor: The Worship Team is currently looking for someone to edit and upload the weekly service recordings to our website. The process takes approximately one hour each week and full training is available. Please contact Sharon Fincher for more information.
Religious Exploration Teacher: We are looking for thoughtful, caring (so-called) Adults to spend time with our community’s kids and youth. We currently have RE Classes every other week, and offer a small stipend for every class you’re present for. All lessons are planned and prepared in advance by the RE Coordinator (in consultation with our teachers). If you’re interested or would like to learn more, please contact Marj Askins (RE Coordinator).
Landscape and Grounds Team: The Landscape and Grounds Team is looking for volunteers to help maintain the native landscaping throughout the property. Opportunities for one-time and recurring tasks exist. For more information, please contact Mary Alice Masonick.
CommUUnity Garden Team: Did you know that UUCE has a small, but productive, garden plot that provides fresh produce to community pantries and charities? The garden is dormant during the winter, but the work will begin again come spring – and we need your help with the planning, planting, weeding, and harvesting to continue making it a success. If you would like to help, please reach out to Susan Swing.
