Citizens’ Climate Education

Citizens’ Climate Education

As the new church year begins July 1st, it has been decided by the Executive Team, Finance Committee and the Worship Team to change things up a bit with our Share the Plate program. We will now have quarterly recipients, our 1st quarter is July, August and September. We hope that having quarterly recipients will allow us to created a deeper relationship with the recipient, while lessening some of the Worship and Finance Committee’s work.

You might remember the Board of Trustees sent out a detailed survey that included asking our community what their social justice concerns were, the results showed environmental/climate change was our communities number one concern. So the ET consulted with our very own environment expert and church member Mary Alice Masonick, she recommended Citizens’ Climate Education (CCE) be our first quarter recipient.

Who We Are

Citizens’ Climate Education (CCE) is a nonpartisan grassroots advocacy organization that empowers people from diverse backgrounds to educate key stakeholders, policymakers, and the general public about effective solutions to climate change. This powerful corps of climate advocates builds political will for long-lasting climate solutions at the federal and state level.

Since our founding in 2007, CCE has grown from a single chapter with only a few members to a national organization with over 210,000 members that span every U.S. congressional district. CCE provides opportunities for our grassroots supporters to take individual actions, as well as collective actions through local chapters and national action teams. At each level of our organizational structure, CCE staff provide robust tools, training, and support to ensure volunteers are successful in their advocacy.

Vision

Citizens’ Climate Education exists to build political will for a livable world. We envision a diverse, well-informed citizenry so actively engaged in the legislative process that effective and equitable climate change policies have the momentum to be enacted, regardless of the political party in power.

The Citizens’ Climate Partnership

CCE works alongside its sister organization, Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL), to strategically build political will for impactful climate solutions in Congress and in state legislatures. CCE is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides training, tools, resources, and coordination to help volunteers become effective advocates for climate solutions. CCL is a registered 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization that supports lobbying efforts on specific climate legislation. Each organization has its own governing board, operating budget, and audited financials.

Although CCL has a more public-facing presence, most program activities are related to climate change education and are supported by the Citizens’ Climate Education budget.
