UUCE is proud to support Elgin’s first ever Pride parade and festival on Saturday, June 3, 2023. Pride month and related annual events are celebrated globally, with its origins being the result of decades of LGBTQIA+ activism and organizing for equal rights. On June 28, 1970, on the one year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, the first Pride marches were held in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Thousands of LGBTQIA+ people gathered to commemorate Stonewall and demonstrate for equal rights.
Elgin’s plans for a 2020 Pride event were squashed by COVID-19 but are in full motion this year! Elgin Pride 2023 is an all-ages, family-friendly parade and festival celebration with food, music, vendors, and activities in downtown Elgin’s Festival Park. The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. and has a half mile route. The festival will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. UUCE will march in the parade and staff a vendor booth at the festival. A sign up link is coming soon but in the meantime mark your calendars for Saturday, June 3.
