From the Board of Trustees

It’s hard to believe, but the end of 2022 is drawing near. We’re in our last month, the weather is getting colder, the streets are lit with twinkling lights, and snow is just around the corner.

Another new year is approaching. I know many of us look at a new year as a time to personally reflect, evaluate, and refine ourselves. Resolutions may be made, goals set, intentions defined.

For those of us who choose to look at the new year as a time of reflection and improvement, it’s important for us to also recognize that we are building off a solid foundation of who we are and the journey we’ve taken to become what makes us “us.”

Whether you view a new year as a time of new personal beginnings or not, I would like you to think about 2023 as the beginning of something new for UUCE. The Board of Trustees is working on a plan to collaborate with you to build a strategy for our beloved church community.

Our intent is to involve all church committees, teams, and contributors to have a voice not only in what we want our church to be in the next 3-5 years, but how we will realistically get there. We have the power to shape the future of UUCE and we need you to be a part of it!

We will communicate more details in January, and may add more steps, but for now, we would like you to keep the following timeframes in mind:

January – Council of Chairs meeting for committees/teams

February – Survey the congregation

March – Hold working sessions to refine the strategy

Just as we each individually are building on a strong foundation, so is UUCE. We posses so many strengths, resiliencies, loves, compassions, and relationships. We’ve been on quite a journey of becoming.

I’d like to close with excerpts from a Donna Ashworth poem:

…take a moment to acknowledge what you already are. All that you already are. Because it’s a lot. You’re a lot.

And you deserve to be seen.

For catching the stones life has thrown at you, and for using them to build your castle that little bit higher.

You have endured my friend.

Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for UUCE. I am very excited about what the new year(s) will bring for us, and I’m thrilled to have you along for the ride.

In faith,

Krista Wagner, on behalf of the Board of Trustees
