PADS of Elgin

This month’s Share the Plate recipient is:

PADS of Elgin

Public Action to Deliver Shelter, or PADS, works to provide support and shelter to homeless families and individuals in Elgin. They provide a safe place for people to sleep, eat, shower, and do laundry, providing all the necessary beds, food, hygiene products, and laundry detergent. They also help individuals create an action plan by identifying barriers which led to homelessness and ways to overcome them. Each year, PADS of Elgin has a greater than 70% success rate, which is three times the national average. Learn more about their organization on the PADS website.

The money collected through Share the Plate will be used for funding UUCE’s involvement in providing lunches for their daytime shelter program, as well as helping PADS defray expenses caused by the COVID-19 crisis. Don’t forget, UUCE is regularly involved with PADS by providing meals for the homeless, and we’re always looking for volunteers. If you’d like to learn more about UUCE’s involvement with PADS, visit our Justice Projects page.
