Once upon a time, when the Sanctuary we reside in today was first being built – both our yearly operations and climate were different from what we’re used to today.
Our building was originally constructed without air conditioning because it was typical for UU Ministers and the congregation to take the summers off, and the surrounding months were predictably cool enough to keep the building at a tolerable temperature throughout the year.
As things change, we’ve remained a resilient bunch who adapt accordingly!
Now that we are lay-led, we have the privilege of volunteers that keep our pulpit active nearly every week of the year, rain or shine.
While we have experimented with shifting to online only services in hopes of being accommodating of the weather – we’ve found that unless it’s truly an emergency situation, we’re capable of offering enough options to keep everyone safe, comfortable and connected in person and online – and that it is important to do so.
With that said, our Worship, Building and Executive Teams will do their best to keep onsite spaces as cool as possible – but you are ultimately responsible for deciding what is the best option for you and your family’s well being every Sunday.
Onsite: we have handheld fans available in the narthex, and if you feel that you cannot handle the heat in the Sanctuary, the service is audibly broadcasted downstairs in Fellowship Hall where it is typically cooler and water is always available. If you plan to be onsite with us, make sure to check the weather and prepare accordingly.
Online: If you are not able to join us on particularly hot days, no worries! Our service is always available online as well. You can find the link to join us in the newsletter each week or on our website homepage at UUCE.org.
Thank you to those who join us in all capacities!
