“The Science of Well-being” New Adult Religious Education Class

Happy New Year!

The Revitalization Team is excited to host another UUCE collaborative offering to complete the free Yale online class called “The Science of Well-being.” Some of us completed the class together in 2020 and it was so well-received that we want to facilitate it happening for more people.

Sarah Stultz and I are going to moderate the 10-week class on Sunday mornings in-person at church and also with an online call-in option. Each participant will sign up for the free class online via Coursera, then work on the weekly assignments and we’ll discuss and review progress on Sundays. We’ll begin on January 15 (9:30am-10:20am), wrapping up on March 19.

If you are interested in participating, please let Sarah or me know by Saturday, January 7 and we’ll include you in the meeting correspondence. Homework will begin January 8, in preparation for our first class on the 15th. Sarah.Stultz@uuce.org or Todd.Underwood@uuce.org

Here is the official description of the course from Yale: “In this course you will engage in a series of challenges designed to increase your own happiness and build more productive habits. As preparation for these tasks, Professor Laurie Santos reveals misconceptions about happiness, annoying features of the mind that lead us to think the way we do, and the research that can help us change. You will ultimately be prepared to successfully incorporate a specific wellness activity into your life.”

I thought the TED Talk, Titled: The New Era of Positive Psychology, given by Professor Martin Seligman, communicated some insightful thoughts and information.
