Ethnic Eating December and January Restaurant Choices (and group photo)

Last Saturday, 12 hearty adventurers braved the wintry weather to sample the cuisine of Albania including various versions of the burek and other delicacies of the Balkan peninsula. A great time was had by all!  For January, we will be visiting another island country of the Caribbean – Antigua and Barbuda. And we won’t have to go far. We’ll sample the dishes of the sea at Marisco El Charco at 302 S. McLean Blvd, Suite G, Elgin, IL at 5 pm on…

May you be showered in blessings this season, a message from Rev. Dr. Susan Frederick-Gray, UUA President

What times we continue to live through. We are in the churn of change. Systems and practices we’ve relied on are breaking down and what is needed is still being imagined, not yet here.  When we are worn down and worn out, sometimes we still push ourselves knowing the urgency and importance of the challenges ahead. But to bring forth the creativity, energy and compassion needed to nurture change, we need to take care of ourselves.  Rest is crucial for the quality and sustainability of…

From the Board of Trustees

It’s hard to believe, but the end of 2022 is drawing near. We’re in our last month, the weather is getting colder, the streets are lit with twinkling lights, and snow is just around the corner. Another new year is approaching. I know many of us look at a new year as a time to personally reflect, evaluate, and refine ourselves. Resolutions may be made, goals set, intentions defined. For those of us who choose to look at the new…

YWCA of Elgin

Our youth have chosen the YWCA of Elgin Giving Tree as the recipient of our Share the Plate collection for December.  This year, instead of doing the shopping ourselves, we hope to raise $800 to be shared equitably among 17 children.  The YWCA staff and volunteers, who know the children well, will purchase and wrap gifts of clothing, books and toys according to each child’s wish list. YWCA Elgin is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for…

PADS Signup for December

Dear Friends, Thank you to all who prepared meals, served meals and/or donated supplies to the PADS shelter during November. It’s much appreciated. Going forward, there is yet another month that calls us to help with similar needs. Here’s the signup for December. Thank you! Gift Wrapping Social

Don’t wrap your seasonal gifts at home alone! You are invited to a gift wrapping event hosted by the Revitalization Team on 12/17 from 2-4pm. Bring your unwrapped gifts and wrapping supplies,  join with other members, and wrap your gifts in a  holiday  atmosphere in Fellowship Hall!

Ethnic Eating December Update

Put away your flowered shirts and the pool toys, our trip to the Caribbean is over. However, I think the 11 folks who went enjoyed the flavors and the community.  That brings us to December’s selection. As I previously said, I found a restaurant with foods of Albania. However, I also found the date I had proposed conflicted with some scheduled activities of some members, so we will now be attending Cafe Beograd on Saturday, December 3rd at 5 pm.…

4th Sunday Styrofoam Collection

Sunday, November 27, from 11:30am – 12pm Please separate your CLEAN food grade Styrofoam from your packaging Styrofoam and bag as needed.  Styrofoam peanuts are NOT accepted (take to UPS store).  Place your Styrofoam in the Prius with the open hatch in the church parking lot. Joe Masonick will be doing the collecting. We’ll drive it to Dart Container Corporation in North Aurora (open 24/7).  Please try to avoid using Styrofoam because its use is not sustainable. Many people manage to avoid…

How’s Religious Education (RE) going?

“How’s Religious Education (RE) going?” I get this question a lot, and it’s a tough one to answer. On the one hand, it’s been a wonderful couple of months with our Youth Group. I know you all know this already, but the Youth of UUCE are caring, smart, fascinating people and it’s a joy to get to spend time with them during RE Classes. Since we started meeting every other week again, they have spent time playing games and getting to…
